Meet Dr. Zachary Stockton, D.C.
A Patient First
Dr. Zachary Stockton, D.C., likes to tell people he was a patient long before he was a doctor. At 26, his small car was rear-ended by an SUV at a San Francisco red light, shoved into traffic, and T-boned from the side. (You can guess who won that matchup.)
The neck pain that followed wouldn’t let up. He tried medication, massage, stretching, and even a new pillow, but nothing gave him more than temporary relief. He wasn’t sleeping well and, by his own admission, turned into a pretty grumpy guy.
Finally, his mom told him to see a chiropractor. That doctor took the time to explain what was going on and patiently answered every question. Dr. Stockton felt a real difference right away, and within a month he’d cut back from three visits a week to one.
Finding His Calling
In that waiting room, he started noticing other patients. Some came in hunched over and wincing, then walked out with a little more spring in their step. Others came in feeling fine and simply wanted to stay that way. That idea of staying well, not just getting well, hooked him.
His chiropractor became his mentor and later hosted his externship. After earning his Bachelor’s degree from the University of California, Santa Cruz in 2000, Dr. Stockton graduated cum laude from Palmer College of Chiropractic West in 2010 and joined Pi Tau Delta, the International Chiropractic Honor Society.
Experience You Can Count On
Dr. Stockton has been licensed in California since 2011, holds X-ray supervisor and operator certification, and is a member of the American Chiropractic Association and the California Chiropractic Association. Before joining Alexander Chiropractic and Wellness, he spent five years as an associate and about ten years running his own East Bay practice. Since 2023, he’s taught continuing education seminars on ethics, wellness, and adjusting technique.
At the end of October, Dr. Stockton will step in as clinic director of our San Ramon office, taking over for his longtime colleague and friend, Dr. Eric Westover.
His Approach to Care
Dr. Stockton uses Diversified technique, with a few Gonstead-inspired methods mixed in, like a seated neck adjustment. He skips the cookie-cutter approach, so every plan fits the person in front of him.
He especially enjoys working with wellness patients and helping people after car accidents, since he knows firsthand how much a crash can upend your life. Born with an extra vertebra in his low back and a slight scoliosis, he also pays close attention to pelvic alignment.
He compares low-level discomfort to the hum of a refrigerator. You don’t notice how much it bothers you until the power goes out and the room goes quiet. That’s why he checks more than the spot that hurts.
