Functional Medicine in Pleasanton

box of veggiesAre you tired of being handed prescription after prescription for your health challenges, but not getting answers, instead just temporary symptom relief? If you’ve already gone through the medical route, have seen doctor after doctor, and have been told your labs are normal and that “you’re fine,” you may benefit from functional medicine.

At our Pleasanton location, we want to help you heal your body from the inside out using this form of alternative medicine.

Meet Our Certified Holistic Nutritionist

Passionate about helping clients maximize their health, Cammie Cavros is our certified holistic nutritionist. She received her certification from Bauman College. Please be advised that consultations with Cammie Cavros/Soultrition 360 at Alexander Chiropractic and Wellness do not include diagnosis or medical advice, and are intended to complement your doctor’s treatment.

Your physician can be advised of any information or recommendations discussed in these sessions. Soultrition 360 and Alexander Chiropractic and Wellness advise that each client continues to seek medical care of a licensed physician if they are currently under the care of one.

Cammie also always tells her clients to first check with their doctor and do proper testing. While you can have tests done through your primary care physician, we can also do testing through our company. We offer the DUTCH test (measures hormones), a neurotransmitter test, and a GI (gut) map. Then we collaborate with labs and other companies, which have medical doctors that can help guide us in making recommendations. Using all the information, Cammie will come up with a protocol for clients.

Getting to the Root

While medication and injections address symptoms, functional medicine pinpoints the root cause of people’s illnesses. You can look at it like this: if you go to your Western medicine doctor with a pain, they give you a pill for the pain, but they don’t identify the cause of your discomfort. It’s like if you had a tree that was dying and the leaves were turning brown, so you spray painted the leaves green. Of course, the real problem wasn’t the color of the leaves. The real problem could be anything from the amount of water or sunshine it was receiving, the soil quality, or a pest infestation.

Many times, health issues originate in the gut (i.e. your gut microbiome is dysfunctional), and we try to fix these issues through supporting gut healing. That’s what functional medicine is—a different approach to going deeper to find the root cause of your illness. As Hippocrates said, “All disease starts in the gut.”

Conditions That Can Be Addressed

Here are some of the many health issues that often respond favorably to functional medicine:

  • Autoimmune conditions
  • Cardiovascular issues
  • Chronic fatigue
  • Diabetes
  • Gut issues
  • Headaches
  • Joint pain
  • Menopausal issues
  • Thyroid conditions
  • Weight gain
*We are not a medical practice and do not treat or cure these conditions. We simply support the systems of the body to help the body have the best chance of healing itself.

What to Expect

We will give you a detailed intake form to complete. It will ask about your digestive health, sleep habits, diet, and any issues you’re struggling with. We will also ask questions about your mental health to see if you’re dealing with anxiety or depression.

By giving Cammie all your symptoms, she can usually determine what tests you need. For example, for women who come in with menopause, they might complain of hair loss, hot flashes, and joint pain. Cammie would give them the DUTCH test that measures hormones such as estrogen, cortisol, progesterone and others. Based on the results, she can determine how to supplement them properly.

Do you work with other practitioners?

Yes. In particular, we collaborate with medical doctors from a variety of specialties.

Do you see patients of all ages?

We see adults 18 and older.

How soon will I get results?

It’s important to know that this is not a quick fix. Sometimes it’s trial and error, especially with hormonal imbalances. And when taking supplements versus medication, it can take longer to get results.

“Have patience and grace with yourself. Take a deep breath, and work at it in small steps, until you finally get to the grand finale, and you feel amazing,” said Cammie.
