Feel Great This Summer: Easy Ways to Prep Your Body (and Mind)

feel good summerWith warmer weather rolling in and longer days ahead, it’s natural to want to feel your best—whether you’re hitting the beach, the trail, or just your backyard.

The good news? You don’t have to chase a number on the scale or overhaul your routine overnight. Pleasanton-based certified holistic nutritionist and functional medicine practitioner Cammie Cavros shares some simple and helpful tips.

1. Start Your Day With Sun and Protein

“I tell my clients to grab a cup of tea and go outside to get that sunlight,” says Cammie. “No sunglasses—because you need to have the light directly hitting your face.”

Why is morning sunlight so important? It helps reset your circadian rhythm and gives you a natural boost to start your day. She recommends about 15 minutes to get the benefits from the rays.

Then, head inside for a protein-rich breakfast. A veggie omelet, turkey bacon, or a gluten-free muffin with nut butter are great options to help stabilize blood sugar and energy levels.

2. Fuel Smart—All Day Long

Instead of skipping meals or trying intermittent fasting (which isn’t for everyone), Cammie encourages regular, balanced eating.

“People who eat three meals and a snack—starting their day with food—aren’t crashing at night or overeating because they haven’t taken care of their body all day,” she explains.

Focus on lean proteins, fruits and veggies, healthy fats, like seeds and nuts, and whole foods. A steady rhythm of eating helps you feel more energized, clear-headed, and less prone to late-night cravings.

3. Move With Purpose

You don’t need to spend hours doing cardio. A little bit of weight training goes a long way.

“Weight training helps with blood sugar regulation, keeping muscle mass, and building strength,” says Cammie. Even two to three short strength workouts per week can make a big difference.

Local to Pleasanton? Try the Sports Park trail or explore hikes along the Ridge. Whether it’s a beach walk, a hike, or a home workout, consistency matters more than intensity.

4. Focus on Feeling Strong, Not a Number

A healthy body leads to a healthy weight—not the other way around. Cammie’s advice? Ditch the obsession with the scale and tune into how you feel.

“Everybody’s so focused on this number on this panel. And that’s just not where it’s at,” she says. “It is really about how your clothes fit and how you’re feeling—strength-wise, mentally, emotionally.”
